‘I write UTME for seven years’ – LASU best-graduating student talk her experience

With Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.74, dem declare one Remilekun Orefunwa, on Wednesday, as the best-graduating student of the 2015/2016 academic session of Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos.

Na the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, declare the 29-year-old pregnant lady as the overall best-graduating student when dem dey do their 21st convocation.

Na total of 36,489 students do graduation with diploma, first and higher degree for the convocation. Apart from Orefunwa, wey be graduate of Accounting Education, na like 25 other people come out for first class division.

When Orefunwa go talk, she say na like seven times she write Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination before she see admission to study for LASU.

She say;

“I almost gave up after writing the UTME for seven years in a bid to gain admission into the university without success. I also applied to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, three times without success. But with encouragement from my dad and elder sister, I eventually gained admission to LASU in 2012 to study Accounting Education.

“My sister kept encouraging me and I started a professional career at the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria during the long wait for admission. I qualified as an Associate Chartered Accountant in 2010. My advice to others is that they should never give up in the face of daunting challenges,”
